Hack to change kindle screensaver
To get a new set of screen savers, you need to add a small hack to the kindle. This is an unofficial, unsupported hack, so use at your own risk. That said, it is simple to install and totally worth it.
You will need to add a jailbreak file and then the screensaver hack.

- Download this jailbreak file and unzip it.
- In the jailbreak folder, locate the .bin version relevant to your kindle version:
- k2 = Kindle 2 US
- k2i = Kindle 2 International
- dx = Kindle DX US
- dxi = Kindle DX International
- dxg = Kindle DX Graphite
- k3g = Kindle 3 Wifi + 3G (US & Canada)
- k3gb = Kindle 3 Wifi + 3G (Elsewhere)
- k3w = Kindle 3 Wifi
- Plug your kindle into your computer with the USB cord.
- You should see the drive appear on the desktop.
- Copy the correct version of the hack to the root kindle folder
- Eject the kindle (the normal kindle screen should return)
- On the kindle:
- press home button
- press menu button
- scroll down to "Settings" and click
- press menuscroll down to "Update Your Kindle" and click
- If this is grayed out, you probably copied the wrong file or put it in the wrong place
- Kindle will take a minute or two to restart and the jailbreak will be in place.
- Download the screensaver hack.
- Copy the relevant .bin file to the kindle root, along with the
linkss
folder inside thesrc
folder- The same naming scheme applies to these .bin files
- In the
linkss
folder on the kindle drive, there should be ascreensavers
subfolder. - Copy any 600x800 (824x1200 for DX) image files (png or jpeg) into the
screensavers
folder - To randomize the order, include a blank file in
linkss
named "random" - Eject the kindle
- To apply the update, on the kindle:
- press home button
- press menu button
- scroll down to "Settings" and click
- press menu button again
- scroll down to "Update Your Kindle" and click
- You should now see your custom screensavers!
- To add more screensavers later:
- plug the kindle into the computer
- drop the images into the
linkss/screensavers
folder - eject, and on the kindle: home→menu→"Settings"→menu→"Restart"
